What are the key steps to purchase a mini donkey from Shady-Ville Acres?

When you see a donkey or foal of interest, please contact us. We encourage and prefer farm visits to meet us and the foal of interest. A 30% non-refundable deposit is required to hold a foal until weaning, and a signed contract will be provided. Deposits are non-refundable unless something happens while the foal is in our care. A weaning and pick-up date will be determined and agreed upon in the contract. Appropriate transport and associated costs are the responsibility of the purchaser; we will work with you on transport arrangements. Health certificates and Coggins tests can be obtained at the buyer's expense per our vet's fees if requested, but this must be known in a timely manner before transport. Transport or pick-up needs to be in a timely manner, within two weeks of the agreed-upon date, or a boarding fee of $10 a day will be added to the final pick-up price for two weeks. After that, the purchase will be considered non-pay/non-pick-up, and the foal will remain at Shady-Ville Acres and be put back up for sale.

What important information or documents will buyers receive?

Full payment is required on or before pick-up. Buyers will receive the foal's registration and transfer upon payment and pick-up. Foals will also come with a halter and lead.

What should I prepare for before bringing my mini donkey home?

Please be sure you are prepared ahead of time for taking home your foal; they need to have a companion. If purchasing a jack, please be sure you are aware that to make the best and safest pet, the foal should be gelded. If you choose to keep him intact, please be aware of the associated risks and behaviors.

Are the foals registered?

Foals are microchipped and registered with ADMS unless otherwise stated.
